Both primary and metastatic liver cancer still represents a frequent disease all over the world and surgery is considered the best treatment in order to offer a chance of cure. Moreover neoadjuvant treatments have widened the indications to hepatectomies. Liver tumor resection can actually be performed with laparoscopic approach, offering the same oncological results, but with less invasive procedures and lower risk of postoperative complications.

Nevertheless, comparing to other surgical fields, the spread of laparoscopic liver surgery has been slightly slower, mainly because of technical difficulties, lacking of dedicated technology and risk of intraoperative severe complications potentially hard to manage. Nowadays laparoscopic liver surgery technique is evolving very quickly thanks to dedicated technology and increased surgical experience. Moreover indications to minimally invasive approach have been extended in many Centers, mainly focusing on laparoscopic surgery for liver cancer. In such a scenario, the possibility to share different experiences between surgeons and all the professional roles who are involved in liver cancer treatment can improve the quality of multimodal management of liver diseases.

One of the aims of LIVEAS is to provide videos of laparoscopic liver surgery technique focusing on single interventions or on tips and tricks which can facilitate the minimally invasive approach of liver surgery. Browsing the website should become a nice way to update the knowledge and improve the surgical technique in order to offer to our patients the best perioperative comfort.

We really hope that LIVEAS can make everyone feel as part of the same medical community, sharing experiences, ideas and clinical cases.
